„Menschenrechte – Human Rights“

The seminar course "Menschenrechte – Human rights" is a bilingual course in German and English and designed for the students of year 11. The seminar course focuses on specific aspects of human, legal and social rights taking primarily into account the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights". In additon, the seminar course will encompass the "European Convention of Human Rights" as well as "the Convention on the Rights of Children". Furthermore, the students will also acquire knowledge about the various governmental and non-governmental organizations which are active in the different fields related to the topic human rights. Finally, the students will deal with a range of historical human rights activists who promote, support, protect human rights and fight for the implementation of these rights on a local, national and international level.
By working on the topic of human rights and its aspects, the seminar course will be able to promote students awareness and participation in society. As a matter of fact, they will concentrate on the key topics during the entire run of the course and share information with for example individuals, interest groups, civil societies organizations, and non-governmental organizations.
While participating in the seminar course, the students will have the possibility to foster various basic and transversal skills, with focus on learner-centered methods. Further methods applied in the course are for instance learning by teaching, research in library data base, essay writing, conduction of surveys, compilation and analysis of statistics, visualization and presentation using new available technologies and information technology.
